One of the better games across the state will take place in Sioux City Friday night at Memorial Stadium where two top ranked 3A programs in SBL and Bishop Heelan will be locking horns in what has been a competitive series over the last 17 meetings showing SBL holding a 9-8 advantage.
GAME OF THE WEEK
The Warriors of head coach Justin Smith are rolling over opponents each Friday night. The Warriors offensively have been very consistent and are scoring at a (34.4) points per game clip behind a strong rushing attack that has piled up (2,480) yards and (28) touchdowns.
The Warriors are led in rushing by sophomore RB Ryan Husen (555) yards and (6) scores along with senior work horse Zayvion Ellington (542) yards and (5) touchdowns. Other key contributors in the backfield include junior Joe Hardy (381) yards and (4) trips to the end-zone and senior Bo Koedam (319) yards and (3) scores. Junior QB Isaiah Jervik has passed for (332) yards and (4) touchdowns. The offensive line features senior Blake Dunagan 6-4 (240) and senior Alex Wilson 6-2 (270).
The Warriors have also been very reliable on defense allowing only (9.4) ppg on the season and have featured rising junior college prospect Joey Hardy who has racked up (23.0) tackles and a team leading (9.0) TFL. Senior Kaleb Pendergast leads the Warriors with (29.0) stops on the season. Senior Koedam has collected (24.5) tackles from the secondary.
The Crusaders of head coach Jon LaFleur are having a solid season at (6-1) and have won 17 of their last 20 games dating back to last season. The Crusader offense is averaging (30.1) points per game. The Crusaders feature standout junior athlete Kasen Thomas a D-1 recruit who leads the Crusader rushing attack with (1,276) yards and (20) touchdowns.
Junior RB Avery Favors has chipped in (234) yards and (2) scores. Junior QB Noah Conley a transfer from SC North has started the last two games after sitting out to oblige transfer rules. Conley has passed for (347) yards and (3) scores. Junior WR Anthony White is the leading receiver with (6) catches for (181) yards and (2) touchdowns. The Crusader offensive line is led by senior Hayden Overgaard 6-2 (265) who is a fantastic run blocker up front.
The Crusader defense has performed very well all season long allowing only (12.2) points per game. Senior Will Pattee leads the defense with (37.0) tackles and (4.5) TFL. Thomas checks in with (33.0) tackles and (13.0) TFL. Junior Zachary Harpenau has tacked on (30.0) stops on the season.
